Welcome to my new experimental venture: ‘The Court Of Comics’! Here, I aim to bring you my perspective on the expansive world of comic book media. No clickbait. No monetisation. Just me being me… So, who am I and why should you care? I’ll answer that first one and let you decide the latter for yourself.
Ever since I was a kid, I have always been drawn into the fantastical spectacle of superheroes. Some of my earliest memories are of a little me watching classic DC and Marvel animated TV shows: The Batman, Batman Beyond, Justice League Unlimited, Spider-Man; these stick out the most. You can’t beat that classic opening theme of The Batman. I realise I may be giving away my age there by not talking about the legendary Batman The Animated Series — I am a fan of that, too, so keep those pitch forks sheathed!
My very first comic book purchase was The Invincible Iron Man by Matt Fraction. Why? The cover looked cool and I was young. But I didn’t truly join the fold until around 2015, taking the plunge and ordering Batman Volume 1: The Court Of Owls of the relaunched New 52. Synder and Capullo are creative geniuses and arguably responsible for the passion that has driven me towards doing this today. Without this first buy, I may never have developed such an intrigue and appreciation for the sophistication of comic books as a form of literature and artistry. While not my first experience with comic books or these characters by a long shot, this was undoubtedly my seminal deep dive into this world.
Now you know a bit about me, I hope you stick around for the coming future as I give you my thoughts on a variety of films, movies, TV, video games, comics, and collectables. You name it and I’ve probably spent an exuberant amount of money on it — much to the detriment of my wallet… Yes, I have bought a comic book online while drunk... It’s not my proudest moment.
Bringing the obligatory introduction to an end, stay tuned weekly for an assortment of new content relating to everything comics — and maybe a little more!
